Between the 1st and 5th of December 2010, the Science Students Society will be organising a campaign titled ‘Biodiversity Week – A Local Perspective’.
This will be aimed towards all University students in order to create public awareness of the richness of Maltese biodiversity. Several activities are planned as part of this campaign, including talks about Urban Biodiversity and the European Commission Habitats and Birds Directives, visits to the Simar and Ghadira Nature Reserves and a Nature Trail. Birdlife and Nature Trust will also be on campus between Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th promoting their work.
1st - 3rd December: Nature Trust & Birdlife @ Student House Foyer (10am - 2pm)
3rd December: Talks @ Gateway Hall B1
- 12pm: Urban Biodiversity
- 1pm: EC Habitat and Birds Directives by MEPA
4th December: Site Visit @Ghadira & Simar Nature Reserves
Van leaves at 10:30 am from campus bus terminus
5th December: Nature Trail through Buskett, Clapham Junction and Dingli Cliffs. We meet at 10:00 am at Buskett (under canopy)
Additionally, this year's edition of our annual activity, 'On the Trail', between the 12th and 13th of December, will highlight the closing of this campaign. This year, the over-night camp will take place at the Zurrieq Scouts Campsite, with the treasure hunt extending to neighboring rural areas and sites of interest, revolving around the theme of Biodiversity.
