Janet attard
BSc. Biology
1st year

My name is Janet Attard and I am currently in my first year reading a BSC in Biology.  The transition between college and university can be an overwhelming, especially for Gozitan students.  The first people I got to know was the S-cubed team, a group of hard-working, ambitious people who helped me adjust. I do believe that S-Cubed plays are a key aspect when it comes to improving the University experience for science students and to further promoting the courses offered by the Faculty of Science to the general public.

Since I have always believed that being an active student is essential,l I was immediately encouraged to join this organisation and hence when I was asked to be part of this team I took the opportunity.  I think that I can be of asset to this organisation as I am a hardworking, determined student who works well in a team.  I will make my utmost to promote science and to improve the university experience by reaching out and by strengthening the voice of the BSC students.

To conclude I would like to take the opportunity to publicly thank the past exec members for their hard work, guidance and help.

BSC. MATHS & STATISTICS AND O.R
2nd year

A year ago, I was given the opportunity to become an active student by being part of S-Cubed. Not sure what exactly I was getting myself into, I decided to take on the challenge and give my utmost efforts for the organisation. Throughout the year as Education and then also Science Communication officer, I have put my commitment and worked hard to help improve the University experience. It has helped me to strengthen my communication and logistical skills and to become a more responsible and dedicated person. Apart from that, it was an unforgettable experience which I will never forget. Thus, all of these have encouraged me to serve again part of the S-Cubed Executive Board again for 2017/18.

My aim is to continue to see the organisation move forward and bring students closer to the organisation. I am willing to work hard and give my utmost efforts again once more. I hope that my past experience can be of help for the organisation and the rest of the executive members, and I am also willing to further learn further myself to build on what the organisation has already achieved.

Being a part of the S-Cubed Executive Board this year has been one of the best experiences of my life. It helped me grow as a person and better my team work, commitment and overall self-confidence. Apart from this, I got to know 8 amazing and hard-working people, who I owe my deepest gratitude for always believing in me and being there for me.

I would be humbled and honoured to be given a chance to continue growing within the organisation for another term. I am willing to strive to further the work done by the current executive board, as well as come up with new ideas. I promise to do my utmost for the benefit of the organisation and most importantly, for the students of the Faculty of Science, and the University as a whole. One thing I have noticed throughout my time at University is that there is a high degree of student apathy within the campus. My vision for this year is to help tackle this problem by finding new ways of engaging students and providing interesting and worthwhile opportunities. I feel that involving ourselves in different activities will help us get out of our comfort zone and make us extraordinary. So, to quote my favourite TV surgeon, I’d like to say, have some fire, be unstoppable, be a force of nature.

I have always been an active student and wanted to continue being one in University. For me, S-cubed is an asset for bringing together all students taking a B.Sc course. I believe that with hard work and determination, from within the executive committee, all science students can have a better University experience. This is primarily done by guiding science students into making the right decisions which will benefit their education and possibly their career.

I aspire to work hard to continue building on what has previously been done by the organization, and be an asset for improvement. I aim to bring more opportunities to B.Sc students as I believe they should be provided with further knowledge than a lecture room can present. I also intent to listen to students and truly be a representative of them.

2nd year

Having had the opportunity to have entered this organisation last year was truly rewarding. It has significantly enriched my University experience this last year and has given me multiple opportunities never thought reachable. Working with this great team for the past term, creating new and innovative leisure events has been a pleasure. Looking back at this successful year I feel that my work in S-Cubed is not yet over. Thus, I would like to contribute much more to this organisation by serving as part of the 2017/18 executive board.

My aim next year to continue growing the organisation’s exposure, not only within our faculty and the University, but also to the general public.  One of my many focuses is to see a greater participation from science students in the following term, as well as upcoming years, and to create many more opportunities for the students within our faculty.

Having said this, I would like to thank all of the present executive board for their constant hard work they have given this past year, and also wish a huge good luck to the future executive.

KRISTINA BRIFFA
bsc. MATHEMATICS & STATISTICS AND O.R.
2ND year

I am a second-year student reading for a degree in Maths and Statistics and Operations Research. Over the past two years attending the University of Malta, I have become more aware of student activism and benefits that it offers to the individuals who partake in it as well as the rest of the student body. Being an active student goes part and parcel with the University experience. The qualities which are enhanced when integrating into a team we form part of will help us grow in various aspects of life.

As Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” I am ready to work diligently for this organization to make student life for myself, my peers and those yet to come after me an all-inclusive journey of learning. I believe that together, as a team, we can continue the work of former executives to make student life a memorable one for all students forming part of the Faculty of Science.

Long before I started studying Biology and Chemistry at the University of Malta I was always fascinated with the Scientific community and Science in general, I understood back then that Scientists are the people which are truly capable of making the world a better place. This meant that when the time came to decide what I wanted to do with my life the choice was crystal clear. This is why I wish to become an active student, to try and give something back to the community that inspired me to pursue my studies and try to further promote the field which I respect and admire.
As a member of the Science Student Society I will do my utmost to represent my fellow classmates and provide a welcoming environment for new students in the Faculty of Science.
Having attended various S-cubed events in this past year I wish to congratulate the past executive on their hard work and promise, should I be elected to continue to build on their success and support them by bringing fresh ideas to the table.

Throughout this past year, I’ve worked tirelessly to contribute to the strengthening of the Social Policy Office. Having been involved in S-Cubed for the past two years, I believe this organization plays a vital role for the science student body.

During this year, I was fortunate enough to play an important role within this organization. My time as Social Policy Officer will be cherished for the years to come since this experience has not only has given me the opportunity to contribute to the communication of science, through various events and publications; but has also thought me greatly about working in a team. Although challenges propped up from time to time, I believe that these only strengthened the organization, as well as our friendship.

Hence, I would be truly honoured to extend my term within this important organization, which has been a fundamental part of my first two years at the University. I strongly believe that the organization will continue to flourish further. I would like to end by taking the opportunity to thank this year’s executive board for their support and friendship throughout the term. It was a pleasure working with all of you.

BSC. MATHEMATICS & STATISTICS AND O.R.
2nd year

From my first week at University, S-Cubed has proved to be an essential asset to all science students. It has welcomed me with open arms and guided me along these past two years. Now it is time to give my share.

I believe that as a student representative association, S-Cubed should serve as the main link between students and the University administration, giving a voice to each and every student. Together with the rest of the executive team, I would also like to raise scientific awareness among the younger generation, by the means of workshops similar to “Eureka at the President’s Secret Garden” and Science and the City.  Moreover, it is my aim to bring the student closer to the working life, especially exposing them to new career choices and opportunities. Last but not least, I intend to connect science students among ourselves. After all, we are what the future science industry depends on.

While I am impressed with the success of previous past members I am looking forward to giving my contribution, continue building up on the excellent work done in the past and striving for new achievements.

After having served on an Executive board and also several sub-committees of both student organizations and organizations outside of University, I know how important and how fulfilling this work can be. As an organization, S-Cubed has always done its best to support and improve the University experience of all science students via both educational and recreational means. The workshops and site visits organized by the organization have always been extremely helpful to aid all students in envisioning a life after University. As a part of the Executive board, my goal is to help the organization maintain the level of excellence that it has shown in the past years, and aid in improving any areas which can be improved. I believe that through the organization, I can learn and develop important skills, which will eventually improve both my personal life and also my career prospects. If entrusted with this role, I promise to do my utmost best to help all Science students in any way that I can and work tirelessly for the improvement of this organization. While I congratulate the past executive members for the job they have done, I will do my best to build on what they have created. I would like to thank the organization for this opportunity, and also all those who believe in my abilities to take on this role.

1st year

During this first year of studies at university I feel that S-Cubed has made my student experience more meaningful and enjoyable.  As a fresher still getting used to university, I was instantly welcomed by S-Cubed members on their stands who introduced me to the organisation and encouraged me to join into their activities throughout the year.  These various events helped me feel part of the large family of science students.  I got to know other students from other years who gave me advice through their own experience on how to deal with my studies and other issues.  I would like to join the S-cubed executive next year to give my contribution to this organisation and also give back what I have received.

I would like to see S-Cubed continue maintaining its aim of promoting harmony between the students of our faculty, through the various events it organises, and to be the students’ voice with the faculty’s administrative and academic staff.  S-cubed is to continue promoting science to possible future students, as well as to the general public, so as to give science the light it deserves and correct misconceptions.  The organisation should also continue to strengthen its role in bringing students in contact with prospective employees and facilitate opportunities for students to get work placements both locally and abroad.

2nd year

During their first year at the University, many students may undermine the importance of student organisations. The efforts made by their fellow students may go unnoticed.

However, one does not take long to realize how vital such organisations are. From the organisation of social events, to that of educational events, S-Cubed strives to unite science students, while preparing them for their future by the creation of events such as workshops which offer the participants an array of opportunities for self-development.

I believe that by being an active student, not only the respective organisation benefits, but even fellow students, because if it were not for the former, none of this would be possible.

Henceforth, I would be honored to be given the opportunity to be a part of S-Cubed's executive board. My vision for S-Cubed is to first and foremost integrate more science students, not only as to maintain the unceasing growth, but also to keep offering students these unending opportunities.

S-Cubed is the organization which represents me and other science students. It can be considered as the bridge between science students and the University’s administration. However, I believe that it is not only important to be represented – one should also play a role in representing others. As a member of S-Cubed’s Executive Board, I will have the opportunity to contribute to both science students and the Faculty of Science as a whole, and also to work within one of the most well-known student organisations in the University.

Working as part of the Executive Board will allow me to share values of teamwork, responsibility and working within deadlines, amongst others, and it will also give me an opportunity to be proactive and not just an observer when it comes to science-related issues. The organisation can also use its resources to increase general awareness surrounding such issues. This would include involving more people from both within and outside the Faculty of Science, for example, in activities such as discussions, debates and competitions.
